SG-124.  Humphrey, Herman  (1779-1861).  Clergyman, president of Amherst College 1823-1845; pioneer of the Temperance Movement, and is credited with publishing the first tract on the subject in America in 1813. His "Parallel Between Intemperance and the Slave Trade" figured strongly in the Abolitionist Movement. Clipped signature from a letter, tipped to another sheet from an autograph collection. SG-125.  Jewett, Henry (1861 - 1930), actor and manager. The Australian -born performer came to America in 1891 and shortly was leading man to Julia Marlowe, Fanny Davenport, and other noted actresses. He also played second leads opposite Richard Mansfield. At the turn of the century he moved to Boston where he established the Henry Jewett Players (also known as the Repertory Theatre), a company that soon gained national recognition for the excellence of its repertory and acting.
