Tosches, Nick. COUNTRY: THE BIGGEST MUSIC IN AMERICA. NY: Dell Publishing Company, 1979. 1st thus. 258 pp., printed wrappers. Illustrated. An offbeat look at the history of country music, focusing on some of the more sensational aspects of the music that we not often talked about, especially when the book was written. One of the most interesting books I have read on the subject, written in a modern, popular style, yet with enough scholarly references to indicate its serious nature. The first book to give attention to the work of Emmett Miller, and influence of Hank Williams, Bob Wills, and Merle Haggard, among others. Light wear. Very good.
