Pickering, John (1777-1846). Philologist; author of the first collection of American word usage, authority on American Indian language. ALS, Dec. 18, 1834, to Richard Green Parker. In part: "I have examined the English and your edition of your work - the miserable trick of suppressing all the badges of its American character ought to be exposed; more particularly as it has subjected you to the charge of plagiarism." Parker was a writer of textbooks,including Progressive Exercises in English Composition (1832), and Progressive Exercises in English Grammar (1834).  7" x 9", previously folded. Very good.
